Ash Wednesday{2017}

Wednesday, March 1, 2017
Today is the first day of March and Ash Wednesday. As I was getting my ashes at early mass this morning I was reflecting and planning my sacrifices for the next 40 days. This last year has been so chaotic in work and life and I don't see it slowing down any time soon. I decided I needed a mindfulness exercise to focus my energy and prepare my self for this Lenten season.

Every year I try to take a reasonable look at my life, thinking about my past, present, and future. I’m not the best catholic but I strive to be a worthy servant of of God. At this time of year that translate to sacrifice but for me it also means renovation of my spirit.  For every sacrifice I make, I attempt to add or enhance another portion of my life in a positive manner.  The purpose of this action for me is to replace potentially bad spiritual (and life) habits with good ones. I have given up many vices through the years and completed some thought provoking exercises that I feel have really impacted my life for the better. In keeping with that tradition I’m sharing my list sacrifices (subtractions) and my list of positive practices (additions) that will be apart of my life for the next 40 days. I am grateful to kick-off this inspiring journey and I hope I find a renewed sense of purpose, increased prayer, and fulfilled belief.

This Lenten season I’m sacrificing the following:
  • Checking email on the road (I know this is wrong and dangerous)
  • Leaving work after 6pm (I need hard boundaries)
  • Meat (minus fish)
  • Self doubt and negative self-talk
  • Soda (Coca Cola)

This Lenten season I am adding the following best practices to my routine:
  • Donations to causes I support (focusing on the political this year)
  • Green juice (Arden's Garden I mean you)
  • Mindfulness exercises (trying to find my Zen and help other do the same)
  • Positive reinforcements
  • Working out

 So be on the look out for more instagram posts, blog posts, and messages from me that embody my goals for the next 40 days and hopefully longer. Have a blessed day everyone!!!
