I'm
always looking for creative ways to participate in Lent. Ash Wednesday kicked
off forty days of fasting, prayer, and penitence for me. I
try to honor Lent and prepare myself for Easter by not only sacrificing
but embodying the spirit of giving. Courtesy of social media, I came across the
40 Bags in 40 days Challenge. After reading about this challenge where you fill
40 trash bags with items from your home, I resolved
that this year (with some slight modifications) I was doing this! Yes, I need to
declutter my physical house but I also decided I needed to spruce up my inner spiritual house. With that in mind here is my plan for a 40 day Trash Bag
Challenge for Lent.
40 Day Trash Bag Challenge {Lent 2016}
Wednesday, February 10, 2016
Rules
of Engagement:
1)Select
at least 1 item a day from your house and 1 item a day from your pantry for 40
days to donate to those in need
.
2) Read a
prayer or devotion every day for 40 days
.
3) For
every trash bag I fill up plan to donate $5 to my Parish.
4) Give up
wastefulness - Reduce my personal waste by using
•
Reusable bags when shopping
•
Reduce my unwanted mail
•
Buy items made from recycled products
•
Prevent food waste by meal prep and planning
•
Reuse and recycle products (buy less stuff)
I'm
committed to doing this for 40 days and this first week I will work on filling
my bag with items from my closet.
I will
keep you posted on how this challenge impacts my home and my spirit this 2016 season
of Lent.
