Easy Way to Color Popcorn {Craft Hack}

Monday, June 8, 2015
I have seen many of the tutorials out there for coloring popcorn and honestly who has time for that? I wanted to make popcorn party favors for a graduation party last year; the plan was to dye the popcorn in the school’s colors but that wasn’t as successful the first time as expected. I failed miserably

I didn’t have the time or tools to color more kernels before popping again then I had a light bulb moment and decided to try  cupcake mist (food color spray) to color microwave popcorn.  It worked like a charm and was super easy! * Cue heavenly music for the birth of this craft hack*

  • Microwave popcorn (natural butter free works best for color purposes)
  • Cupcake Color Mist (I used Wilton brand)
  • Wax paper or covered pan

Total Time: 10 minutes
  1. Microwave popcorn (according to package directions)
  2. Let it cool
  3. Spray popcorn lightly (1-2 coats or until desired color is reached)
  4. Let it dry for a few minutes
  5. Then serve
The great thing about cupcake spray is it is flavorless which means it doesn’t affect the taste of the popcorn!  You can use this for gifts or a fun movie night for the kids!

TIP: Avoid using pre-buttered popcorn, take it from me it affects the color of your final product!

Here is the final product from the graduation party I hosted #goDawgs
