Mardi Gras Party {Must-Haves}

Tuesday, March 4, 2014
Mardi Gras is a fun time and although I couldn't have a party this year it doesn't mean it wasn't on my mind! Here are my Mardi Gras Party Must-Haves for those of you in the mood for a good time!

  1. King Cake - King Cakes is a symbolic tradition for Mardi Gras celebrations.  Decorated in the Mardi Gras colors - purple representing justice, green representing faith, and gold representing power the cake usually has a small baby, symbolizing Jesus hidden inside.  As custom goes the person who "finds" the baby will be rewarded with good luck! Outside of Louisiana, King cakes can be hard to find so consider making it yourself (it’s not that hard)!
  2. Beads – keep your clothes on but hand these out as party favors! Beads bring a little bit of the Mardi Gras parade to any party.
  3. Drinks – alcohol doesn’t have to be your fancy to serve Mardi Gras themed drinks. Whip up some virgin hand-grenades, hurricanes, and or rumrunners! Spike the punch for those looking for an extra kick!
  4. New Orleans Food - any excuse for me to eat crawfish is a good enough for me! If you really want to have a great Mardi Gras party you must have the right menu. Think muffuletta, po’ boys, etouffee and so much more!!!!
  5. Masks – either for decoration or as a fun costumes masquerade masks are a staple at any Mardi Gras party! You can buy in bulk or even have it as a fun activity to entertain your guest. No matter what you decide they are a must-have!
  6. Music – no good party would be complete without the music. Looking for something mellow then go with some classic jazz. Wanting something more up tempo try brass band; I recommend Rebirth Brass Band, your guests wont stop dancing!
We weren’t able to make it to New Orleans this year to celebrate but we will see you in 2015 !

Happy Fat Tuesday everyone! Laissez les bon temps rouler!
